Dear CCP4 members,

Beryllium Discovery Corp (formerly Emerald BioStructures) has an entry level opening for a trained crystallographer in our crystallization and structure determination group at our Bainbridge Island, WA facility outside Seattle, WA USA. We are a contract research organization (CRO) focused on structural biology and drug discovery with clients in industry and academia.

The successful candidate will contribute to a number of structural biology projects performing crystallization, refining macromolecular structures, collecting X-ray data, and assisting junior level staff in conducting experiments. The candidate should have clear communication skills in addition to excellent technical skills. The ideal candidate will have experience in macromolecular crystallography, exemplary attention to detail, and will thrive in a results-driven, fast-paced and dynamic team environment. This position will have the opportunity to make significant scientific contributions to numerous drug discovery projects. Responsibilities:

         Collaborate with Project Managers to meet aggressive project deliverables and timelines on gene-to-structure projects;

         Hands on wet laboratory work performing crystallization experiments including pre-crystallization handling of protein, protein-nucleic acid, protein-protein, and protein-small molecules complexes, crystallization trail set up, crystallization trial observation, optimization of crystal growth, cryo-protection and harvesting of crystals, in house and synchrotron X-ray data analysis and collection;

         Conduct straightforward projects but also assist Project Managers by analyzing courses of action and by troubleshooting  challenging crystallography projects;

         Refine macromolecular structures;

         Participate in structural genomics consortium (SSGCID) including crystallization, structure determination and publication of pipeline and high value targets;

         Documentation using written and electronic laboratory notebooks (ELN);

         Assist and train junior level staff in the execution of crystallography projects.

Education and Experience:

         M.S. in Life Science disciple AND 2 or more years laboratory experience OR Ph.D. in Life Science discipline or comparable field without additional experience;

         Hands-on wet lab experience in macromolecular crystallography;

         Hands-on experience in the refinement of macromolecular X-ray structures.

         Hands-on experience with membrane proteins is a bonus.

We offer a competitive compensation and benefits package including 401k, health benefits and vacation.  Qualified candidates should send a resume and cover letter to [log in to unmask].
