The Oxford and Dublin offices of Peter Lang are delighted to announce the
2015 Peter Lang Young Scholars Competition in the fields of Women’s Studies and Irish Studies.
Proposals are invited from early career scholars in
Women’s Studies for academic monographs to be evaluated by a distinguished editorial board. The winner of the competition will receive a contract to publish the volume with Peter Lang.
Proposals for the
Women’s Studies competition should be submitted to Laurel Plapp ([log in to unmask]) by
31 July 2015 and include an abstract (including chapter synopses), CV and a sample chapter (5,000 to 10,000 words in length) in separate Microsoft Word documents. Proposals are welcome from scholars working on any aspect of Women’s Studies and must be
written in English. Research that fits within the scope of the Peter Lang book series
Studies in Contemporary Women’s Writing is especially encouraged (please see below and on the series webpage:
www.peterlang.com?scww). Proposals under review elsewhere should not be submitted.
The winner will be offered a contract for a non-subsidized paperback book to be published within six months of receipt of the complete and approved manuscript. Planned manuscripts should
be 60,000 to 100,000 words in length. Authors will be expected to copy-edit the manuscript in accordance with the style guidelines provided.
Applicants should be early career scholars with connections to the UK or Ireland:

They should have been awarded a PhD between 2010 and 2015 or expect to be awarded a PhD in 2016.
ˇ
They should be resident in the UK or Ireland, or hold British or Irish citizenship or resident status, or
have completed some or all of their postgraduate education at a British or Irish university.
Decisions will be made by
1 December 2015 and the winner will be notified shortly thereafter.

Studies in Contemporary Women’s Writing
Series Editor: Gill Rye
This book series supports the work of the Centre for the Study of Contemporary Women’s Writing at the Institute of Modern Languages Research, University of London, by publishing high-quality
critical studies of contemporary literature by women. The main focus of the series is literatures written in the languages covered by the Centre – French, German, Italian, Portuguese and the Hispanic languages – but studies of women’s writing in English and
other languages are also welcome. ‘Contemporary’ includes literature published after 1968, with a preference for studies of post-1990 texts in any literary genre.
Studies in Contemporary Women’s Writing provides a forum for innovative research that explores new trends and issues, showcasing work that makes a stimulating case for studies of new or hitherto neglected authors and texts as well as established authors.
Connections are encouraged between literature and the social and political contexts in which it is created and those which have an impact on women’s lives and experiences. The goal of the series is to facilitate stimulating comparisons across authors and texts,
theories and aesthetics, and cultural and geographical contexts, in this rich field of study.
