Dear All,

List members may be interested in a free training opportunity for STEM Ambassadors with links to schools, STEM educators, primary teachers, secondary science teachers and school lab technicians in the Bristol area.

Science outreach/extracurricular science training day - 29th June 2015 in Bristol, free to pre-booked participants.

The Society of Biology would like to offer some free training to teachers and STEM educators in the Bristol area. We are able to offer this free of charge to delegates because we have been awarded a grant to cover the venue, catering and course trainer costs. The day is based at Bristol Zoo Gardens and delegates will have free access to the zoo as part of the course following the main training event. The training is being offered through our Gopher Science Labs, this uses simple hands-on science activities to facilitate learning by primary and secondary aged children to ease their transition to secondary education or for extra-curricular science clubs in secondary or primary schools. The science activities can be used to inspire students, increase their practical skills, communication skills and confidence, and allows them to take ownership of their learning during this process. The activities can be used for peer teaching and learning or peer mentoring within your school, as a transition activity or something for sixth formers to take ownership of then put on their UCAS form.

The training course is being run by the Society of Biology and places are open to all primary teachers, secondary science teachers, school lab technicians, STEM Ambassadors and members of the Society of Biology interested in hosting or leading a Gopher Science Lab day in a secondary school for students from the host secondary and its local primary schools. More information about Gopher Science Labs is available on the Society of Biology website.
