These are all so funny, can’t we publish a collection, and include silly signs and other daft things in libraries, like sex in a small study room, using a magnet to steal books etc, and sell it in aid of a suitable
charity, available in all libraries?

Some of my favourites –
‘Why should someone else be able to reserve a book and stop me renewing it when I still need it?’
‘Why should I have to pay fines because I forgot to return a book before I went home for the summer?’
‘Why don’t you have this exact book I need even though it’s not a reading list, my lecturer hasn’t recommended it and it’s on a topic we don’t actually teach here at XYZ University?’
‘Why can’t you make this book available as an ebook for me to read?’

I have loved all these, and from a long time ago, I can recall:-
‘why can’t I take books out if they are not issued’?
‘’Why is it wrong to drop books out of the window?
‘Why don’t you open all night every night’?
‘My lecturer said there WAS a copy in short loan, he can’t be wrong, where is it’!?

Hi Kate,
One of my favourites
There’s no point of reading any of the 100 other books you have on my subject when my lecturer recommended this one!

Hi Kate
A fun one for Friday! Please summarise for the list.
All of the books on my reading list will be there on the shelf two days before the hand in date (and the academic equivalent – every book I put on the reading list will magically appear on the library shelves
without me having to do anything else)
My litter will be tidied up by the library fairies
Even though I like it to be quiet when I want to concentrate, my conversation is special and affects no-one else
Librarians deliberately make searching all these journals and databases complicated to keep them in a job
Best wishes

Subject: Library myths...
Hi,
I’m thinking about Welcome Week, library induction, call it what you will. I would like to do something with clickers and debunking library myths, eg “you can find everything you need on Google”. I see this being done in a lecture
theatre type setting.
So far I have…
It’s really quick to find information for my assignments (McLibrary – no it takes time, critical evaluation, etc )
Nothing on my topic -
Everything I need is on the internet
Library staff are too busy to help or are too busy reading books, or re-pinning their buns and adjusting their reading specs.
Library staff will find information for me ( as opposed to giving me the skills to find it for myself)
Anymore out there?
