Two postdoctoral positions in thermochronology and tectonics are open at the University of Michigan.

The University of Michigan seeks two postdoctoral scientists to join a team investigating the application of low-temperature (U-Th)/He thermochronology to problems in tectonics, hazards, and surface processes. The positions are based in the Thermochronology Lab at the University of Michigan (https://sites.lsa.umich.edu/thermochronology-lab/) in collaboration with either Marin Clark ([log in to unmask]) or Nathan Niemi ([log in to unmask]). The positions are funded by the University of Michigan, offer a competitive salary and benefits package, and will be awarded for a one-year period, with a possible extension for a second year, contingent on adequate progress.

The successful candidates will have the expertise to develop new methods in (U-Th)/He thermochronology using an Alphachron Helium Instrument, or to apply the technique to problems in continental tectonics or geomorphology. Potential areas of interest for technique development are in detrital low-temperature thermochronology and numerical modeling of thermochronometric data. Funded research projects at Michigan in Tibet, the Middle East and the western United States offer ample opportunities to develop new directions in the application of thermochronometric data, as suited to the candidate’s interest and experience.
