The Greeks actually seem to be exercising it too...

I think it was the Greeks who invented democracy.

Successive British governments might be in specials measures if these are the criteria for British values.

Subject: New CIF

Dear all,

I've just seen the new CIF, and was wondering how one demonstrates 'British Values' in an ESOL Lesson,

I feel rather uncomfortable telling my students that democracy is a 'British value', may be it's just a rebranding of the citizenship curriculum ?

Has anyone recently inspected been pulled up on it in ESOL?

Besides the obviously xenophobic connotation of the argument , one still strives to achieve outstanding in inspections so would be interested to hear how it was done

From inspection handbook

'The social development of pupils is shown by their:

  * acceptance and engagement with the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs; the pupils develop and demonstrate skills and attitudes that will allow them to participate fully in and contribute positively to life in modern Britain.'
  *

Thank you
