This posting is made on behalf of the Catholic Archives Society, and is intended to appeal to those who might be interested in another of their very popular organised visits to archival institutions and related historical sites. In 2015, the CAS is breaking with tradition and staying in England for the biannual study visit. The tour will visit archives and places of Catholic interest in Berkshire and West London. The dates are 28 September – 2 October 2015.

The planned schedule includes visits to the award-winning Douai Abbey Library and Archives, including a talk from Abbot Geoffrey Scott; a tour of The National Archives, Kew; a tour of Berkshire Record Office, including visits to the Reading Abbey ruins, and to the Pugin church of St James Church Reading; a tour of Reading University Special Collections; a visit to the central archive of the religious order, the Poor Servants of the Mother of God, in Brentford; and to Mapledurham House, home of the Catholic Eyston family.

The numbers are limited to 20. Accommodation will be at Douai Abbey, Upper Woolhampton, Berkshire.  The cost should be no more than £350, which will cover bed, breakfast and evening meal, coach hire and administrative costs.  Any money left over will be returned to the participants.  Participants must arrange their own travel and insurance.

If you would like to come, please send a deposit of £50 as a cheque payable to the Catholic Archives Society to Judith Smeaton, 33 Middlethorpe Drive, York YO24 1NA or Margaret Harcourt Williams, 89 Robinsons Meadow, Ledbury, Herefordshire HR8 1SX, before 15 August 2015. The visit will begin and end at Douai Abbey.
