Hi Linda

A stereo microscope will be fine for sorting and identifying plant macros but in order to identify charcoal or wood to species you will need incident light (an epi-illuminating) microscope (sometimes also called a metallurgical microscope) which is more expensive

 

This is where I get ours from, but I expect there are similar websites in the US

Good morning-

Does anyone have a recommendation for a solid stereomicroscope that can be used in a field lab for sorting macros and identifying wood charcoal? If you have had an experience with something that did not work, I would like to hear about that experience as well.
