Professor of Gerontology, The University of Manchester

Closing date: 09/07/2015

The University seeks to appoint a social scientist with an exceptional reputation for leadership in the field of research into ageing with a successful record of attracting external funding. You will also take up a senior role as Director of the Manchester Institute for Collaborative Research into Ageing (MICRA). The post provides a major opportunity to develop MICRA as a world-leading institute for the study of ageing. The University of Manchester (UoM) supports and facilitates multidisciplinary research on all aspects of ageing. You will be expected to play a leading role in developing research into ageing across the University, in the UK and internationally. Applicants from any discipline within the social sciences will be considered for the Chair.

The Chair of Gerontology will be located in the School of Social Sciences. The School is located in the Faculty of Humanities and embraces six discipline areas: Sociology, Social Anthropology, Politics, Philosophy, Economics and Social Statistics. The 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) confirmed Manchester as one of the leading centres for social science research in the UK. For further information, please visit the Social Sciences Manchester pages.

As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons. However, as black and minority ethnic (BME) candidates are currently under-represented at this level in this area, we would particularly welcome applications from BME applicants. All appointments will be made on merit.

Interviews will take place on 08 September 2015.
