RDF, Open Streetmap And to add more detail on the implementation side: The search and POI information are retrieved from a HAL/JSON API (http://api.m.ox.ac.uk/) originally designed for our mobile offering, http://m.ox.ac.uk/. The building and unit information exposed through that API are maintained as a reusable openly-licensed dataset, linked to OSM so we can pull in building shape information. The tiles are generated by TileMill, using the FOSS run-it-yourself approach (as opposed to Mapbox's hosted offering). Everything's open source at <https://github.com/ox-it/?query=maps>.
