I met Joe Scanlon several times in my early travels, usually in Ottawa but also at a conference or two. He was always very friendly, welcoming, helpful and hospitable. His journalist's approach kept his feet on the ground with an always forcefully practical approach to personal and professional issues. We haven't seen each other for many years but it is saddening to know that he is no longer with us.
