STUART HOOD COMMEMORATION

Two events will take place later this year to mark the centenary of the birth of Stuart Hood, an important figure in twentieth century broadcasting, academic life and literature.

The Edinburgh one on Friday 4 September, will take the form of a day-conference with talks/ discussion on Hood's novels, his role in broadcasting, his wartime involvement behind enemy lines in Italy and his political significance. The event is sponsored by the Saltire Society, the Association of Scottish Literary Studies and the National Library of Scotland, with the support of the Tannahill Fund - and will take place in the NLS, George IV Bridge, Edinburgh.

The principal speaker will be the distinguished television drama producer Tony Garnett.
