(50% FTE), fixed term appointment to provide maternity leave cover up to 9 months.
Deadline: 5th June (12 noon)
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated qualitative researcher to support the delivery of a project on post-abortion family planning. Integrating Post Abortion family planning services into existing abortion services in hospital settings
in China (INPAC) is a collaborative research project under the European Commission (EC) Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). The four year project, led by the University of Ghent, aims to develop and evaluate improved family planning services to be delivered
at the point of post-abortion care in urban and rural China.
As a Research Assistant you will work with lead researchers and partners to develop a portfolio of operational social science research (primarily qualitative) to support the aims of the INPAC programme by: providing support to Chinese partners in analysis,
paper writing and leading the development of papers; and assisting with dissemination through a range of media, including policy briefs and blogs. You will also contribute to teaching qualitative research methods, at Master’s level. The post will also involve
working with researchers in the Gender and Health Group at LSTM to develop the group research agenda, including contributing to writing research proposals.
It will be essential that you have experience in research in health or development in low and middle income countries, especially using qualitative
research methods. For appointment at Post-Doctoral level, the successful candidate would need to have a PhD in a health or health-related social science discipline. For appointment at Research Assistant level, you would need to have a Masters in a health or
health-related social science discipline, including a research skills component. Mandarin Chinese language skills would be an advantage for this role.
This job is unlikely to attract a Tier 2 Certificate of Sponsorship (formerly a work permit). Applications from candidates who require Tier 2 immigration status to work in the UK may not be considered if there are a sufficient number of other suitable candidates.
To apply for a Tier 2 Certificate of Sponsorship, employers need to demonstrate that they are unable to recruit a resident worker before recruiting an individual overseas. For further information, please visit:
