Hi James,

This position looks very interesting and exactly the combination of program management, technical innovation and long-term opportunity that I'm looking for.  Unfortunately I don't have access to my current CV on my iPad but you can check out my profile on https://www.LinkedIn.com/in/Siross

My background is perhaps a little more shifted towards GIS and Remote Sensing than the job description indicates as preferred, however coming from a large consultancy organization where I have led the global development of GIS services, managed staff development, led large programs and developed extensive client relationships, I am certain that my skills will readily transfer into this role.

As you will see from my profile I am currently based in the U.S. but I will be moving back to the UK within the next 2-3 months on a permanent basis

Please take a look at my background and I can send further details on request
Best Regards

Simon Ross

I am currently recruiting a Delivery Director – a hybrid role involving programme management, product management and technical innovation - for an early stage GIS technology company. If you are interested, or know someone who might be, please contact me using the details below. Thank you.

The company

Founded in 2012, my client is an early stage data services company that has quickly established a name for itself within the Earth Observation arena and is creating a new market – ‘landscape intelligence’. The company’s foundations were laid at University College London (UCL), one of the UK’s leading universities. The startup is now led by an exceptional Board and management team, leaders who have successfully grown technology businesses in the past. My client is well funded by the UK government through Innovate UK, the European Space Agency and a number of angel investors.

Role purpose

My client is working with funding from the European Space Agency to complete the build of its landscape intelligence platform. The first three paying customers will be transitioned onto the platform from May 2015. The Delivery Director will initially be responsible for managing the build and delivery of my client’s solution for the European Space Agency but will quickly take on responsibility for delivery to the first three customers in the water and agribusiness sectors. Longer-term, as the company scales, the Delivery Director will lead the service provision to a rapidly growing customer base and will become the driving force behind the development of the solution in terms of product/market fit. It is envisaged that the Delivery Director will at some point take over from the current CTO.

Key accountabilities

·  Effectively manage a portfolio of projects ensuring the successful delivery of the landscape intelligence platform within budget and time constraints and to the customers’ expectations

·  Work with the CTO and Development Lead to introduce process/procedure that will provide a robust foundation for successful and repeatable project delivery and further scaling of the organisation

·  Provide strong leadership to and management of internal resources (spanning the development, data products and pre-sales functions) with a mandate to grow the team as the customer base increases in size

·  Ensure effective engagement with both customers and internal stakeholders throughout the project life cycle, bridge the divide between technical and non-technical teams and manage my client's 3rd party software providers effectively

·  Leveraging a strong understanding of each customer and their needs, support product management and solution architecture/design activities

Skills, experience and personal competencies

·  You will have deep experience of delivering high profile and complex projects for a software provider as a project/programme/delivery manager

·  You will have experience of operating in a process-driven organisation with structured project management and development methodologies

·  You will have the significant experience working in “data rich environments’’ and be comfortable understanding, manipulating and delivering large data sets

·  You will have previous line management experience and possess the desire to continue down a line management orientated career path

·  You will have a technical background and a demonstrable track record of driving product innovation (perhaps as a junior CTO or product leader) at previous employers

·  You will be comfortable interacting with customers and be able to demonstrate a strong customer-focused attitude

·  Prior experience of working in a start-up environment is critical; time spent working in corporate technology companies would be advantageous

·  Previous experience in the Earth Observation, GIS or related segments is beneficial

·  You will have energy and enthusiasm allied to a burning ambition to turn a start-up into a sizable and valuable company

Qualifications

Degree-educated.
