The Institute for German Studies (IGS) at the University of Birmingham is delighted to invite you to the following event:

IGS Seminar: ‘Is Germany to blame? Perceptions of Germany during the Eurocrisis’

The seminar will be led by our visiting fellows Professor Joachim Schild and Dieter Berckvens from the University of Trier, who are visiting the Institute for German Studies as part of its DAAD-funded research project, "(Not) Made in Germany? Imagining Germany from the Outside".

Professor Schild's research focuses on French European policy, German-French relations and Europeanization. He will present a paper entitled: "Is Germany to blame? French perceptions of the 'German model' and Germany's role during the sovereign debt crisis"

Dieter Berckvens is completing his PhD in the field of political economy of European integration.
He will present a paper entitled: "It's all politics: how the socio-economic left-right divide in Belgian politics determines perceptions of the 'German model' and German leadership in the Eurozone"

The presentations will be followed by a discussion chaired by Dr Alister Miskimmon (Royal Holloway, London).
