Hi John As your collection of items to be digitised is mixed, it will almost certainly be best to take them to somewhere that specialises in digitisation - as opposed to the other approach which would be to get a decent photographer to come in and do it for you in situ. There are quite a few other things to consider, including - where you still store the resultant images (correct answer being in the cloud, but depending on whether you want to keep master files or not, you may want to use something like Amazon Glacier for long term storage of the larger files). - what metadata / information you want to generate in relation to each image or set of images - how you want to use them or present them - if online then there are many wheels you can avoid reinventing, advice from people who have done this sort of thing would be invaluable There is plenty of advice out there, but a good starting point might be www.jiscdigitalmedia.ac.uk/guides<http://www.jiscdigitalmedia.ac.uk/guides> Or you could look at the Collections Trust resources. I am copying this to the list as many other will be thinking along similar lines and it might save a few long emailsā¦ And John if you want to give me a ring or email me more info I'd be happy to make some initial suggestions. I might also ask you just how much money you have availableā¦. ;-) Best wishes Martin ---------------------------------------------------- Martin Bazley Digital heritage consultant Martin Bazley & Associates 15 Margin Drive Wimbledon SW19 5HA 0780 3580 727 [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> www.martinbazley.com<http://www.martinbazley.com> From: List for discussion of issues in museum education in the UK.
