However, one might not find resources like this without a recommendation. I’m wondering whether it would be practical to have more help within the RDA Toolkit itself to alert us to the more important developments?
The last update was particularly big, and it took me several hours to go through the list of updates; and, of course, the list does not indicate the rationale for the changes. I had a fair idea of what was coming and why from the JSC working papers, but these
are also quite time-consuming; and presumably a lot of the detail was worked out by email.
Might the update summaries include an introduction highlighting the most important changes? Or just some links to resources such as Mark Ehlert’s reports?

Hello all
I work at the Bodleian Libraries, and my main role is to provide training, advice and documentation for cataloguers at the Bodleian and the other Oxford University Libraries (e.g. colleges and departments) about international standards
and local policies.
Although I am co-moderating today, I have not been involved up till now in the development of RDA. I have just joined the CILIP/BL Committee on RDA, so I am very interested in the development process, both to be aware of changes that I
need to tell cataloguers here about and to take a small part in it myself. I’m particularly interested in how best to make sure that I don’t fail to notice any important changes and that I understand whether/ how RDA developments should be implemented in
the context of other current standards and guidelines, e.g. MARC and NACO.
It looks to me as if the most important change for most cataloguers here will be the end of the ‘CORE IF’ rules for recording copyright/ distribution/ manufacture data in the absence of publication date, and I don’t think anyone will be
sorry to see the end of this complication. Our documentation is online, so I will need to update it, and will publicise the changes in our termly ‘miscellaneous mailing’ of news and policy changes. I’m also discussing the changes to additions for personal
names with our NACO cataloguers, but this should not affect ordinary cataloguers here, because we ask them to refer difficult access points to specialists.
Longer term, I’m wondering what the effect of the new chapter 23 will be on LCSH. Introducing relator terms might make a lot of form and quasi-form subdivisions redundant.
