Subject: Singapore's only Natural History Museum opens on 28th April

Dear all,

You may be interested to know the new Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum (LKCNHM), formerly the Raffles Museum of Biodiversity Research (RMBR), is opening to the public on Tuesday 28th April 2015.

The museum's collection dates back to the mid 1800s and was originally housed in the Raffles Museum (now the National Museum). After many years of moving from place to place, the LKCNHM now offers a brand new permanent home to the 560,000 specimens in the collections.

The new museum is split over two gallery spaces; the Biodiversity Gallery on the ground level holds 15 themed zones beginning with Life and ending at Mammals, and the Heritage Gallery on the Mezzanine consists of a Landscape Walk overlooking the native specimens of Singapore, Singapore Today which explores the geographical growth of Singapore and acquisition of new land, and finally the Cabinets of Curiosity which delve into the history of the museum, the collection and notable scientists including Sir Stamford Raffles, Alfred Russel Wallace, and William Farquhar. The 'centre piece' of the museum is a family of 3 diplodocid sauropods known as Apollonia, Prince and Twinky.
