Hi

Just a quick reminder that grants of up to £500 are now available for Welsh archives, libraries and Accredited museums to organise rugby/sporting related activities/projects. This is a great opportunity for you to promote your services and relevant collections and encourage entries to the ‘Rugby Stories’ competition. Please find attached  grant guidelines and short form to complete and return. The deadline for grant applications is Friday 17 April (if you need more time to finalise your ideas please get in touch asap).

Some of you have been asking about suitable people to hold workshops so we have put together a list of contacts (thanks again to all staff who provided contacts) to help you below -

o    Dan Anthony – he has already delivered many creative writing workshops for all ages across Wales and England based on his hugely successful books, ‘The Rugby Zombies’. [log in to unmask]

o    Tom Palmer – he has worked extensively with libraries across Wales and was involved in the Rugby League World Cup activities. He has written books on rugby and football. He will have his Welsh-related Rugby World Cup story out this year also.

o    Welsh poet / author Ceri Wyn Jones.  He is experienced at holding workshops with children of all ages, and Ceri used to play Rugby at International School level.  He was also an English teacher at Dyffryn Teifi Secondary School before moving to join Gwasg Gomer as an editor, so would be equally comfortable holding workshops in Welsh and English.

o    Bethan Gwanas is always inspiring and good fun - and a big rugby fan [log in to unmask] based in Dolgellau

o    Caryl Parry Jones again a big rugby fan and has been Bardd Plant Cymru [log in to unmask] based in Cardiff

o    Karen Owen - a poet and travel writer [log in to unmask] based in Penygroes (Caernarfon)

o    Francesca Kay is always good - very good on short stories and poems with children. Based in Hay. [log in to unmask]

o    Owen Sheers - Wrote the fabulous Calon when writer in residence at WRU - best for the older children

o    Alun Ceri Jones – he’s a voiceover announcer for S4C and also runs Dalen the graphic novel publishers. Suitable for primary and secondary schools. [log in to unmask] 07711025238

o   Phil Carradice offers poetry workshops.

o   Turnip Starfish offer Graphic Novel / Comic workshops and also do a lot of animation workshops.

o    Monmouthshire have done a great deal of digital story work with Katrina Kirkwood who has been involved with a number of projects with all kinds of groups in South Wales. She will supply full edited stories ready to upload with titles, credits etc. www.katrinakirkwood.org<http://www.katrinakirkwood.org

o    National Library Wales have worked with Christopher Morgan and Angharad Dalton in the past. Both work on the Communities 2.0 project and promote oral history etc. They both work at the George Ewart Evans Centre for Storytelling. They can be contacted on [log in to unmask] or [log in to unmask]

o    Professor Huw Bowen is working on a WRU Oral History project at Swansea University so he may have some good contacts or suggestions to offer. He can be contacted on Professor Huw Bowen Professor in Modern History and Classics. Telephone: (01792) 602350. Email: [log in to unmask]

o    Chris Fisher

o    Shoo Rayner is brilliant both with stories, drawing as he goes along, and also because he espouses modern media and has his own YouTube drawing channel. He lives in Coleford in the Forest of Dean but travels quite widely.

o    The best poetry writing workshops for children were those given by Stewart Henderson last year and I still have conversations with children about them.

o    Paul Cookson has been the poet in residence at the National Football Museum and would probably do well with the Rugby theme.  He gives hysterically funny performances, does all kinds of writing workshops. http://www.paulcooksonpoet.co.uk/ee

o    Would also recommend having a look on Literature Wales website - www.literaturewales.org

Please get in touch if you have any questions. Look forward to receiving your applications!

Best wishes

Nicky
