We support 2 candidates to Marie Curie Grants to join our international team and carry out research on the History of Nuclear Energy in Europe.

Fellowships involve a joint application between the researcher and Universitat Pompeu Fabra. They are for Experienced Researchers (4 years research experience or PhD) moving to Barcelona from another country. Projects are between 12 to 24 months with a typical budget of around €85,000 per annum. A Career Restart option is available to those inactive for 12 months or more and a Reintegration option is available to those previously active in EU who seek to return.


Description

The main objective of the research will be on


- the origins and first development of Euratom (1 position)

- nuclear energy as an integrative historical actor (science, technology, society, policy) (1 position)

The candidates will carry out research on the history of nuclear science in Europe in parallel to the three-year project funded by the European Commission and EURATOM “History of Nuclear Energy and Society (HoNESt)”, which aims to conduct an interdisciplinary analysis on the historical experience of nuclear energy and the relationship between nuclear development and European society over the last 60 years.

The annual budget includes funding for salary, mobility costs, research costs and a contribution to the overhead costs of the host organisation.
Salary is based on H2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie rates.

Fellows will have their offices at the main UPF campus, in the central eastern part of Barcelona. The campus offers libraries and IT services, language training and cultural/sports services. The Jaume I Building hosts the main library of the UPF, which includes a specialised section for Humanities and Economy (books, periodicals, electronic journals and databases). From their office, fellows will have remote access to the other UPF libraries, to inter-library lending, IT Services and to an extensive range of electronic resources including journals.

The successful applicant will carry out independent and collaborative research under the supervision of Prof. Fernando Guirao, coordinator of HoNESt at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, and Dr. Albert Presas i Puig, principal coordinator of HoNESt, also based at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra.

Eligibility: The successful applicant is expected to have completed a Ph.D. in history, history of science and technology, science and technology studies or related fields.

Candidates should be fluent in English. Knowledge of other European languages would be an advantage.

Research: The successful applicant will carry out independent and collaborative research under the supervision of Prof. Fernando Guirao, coordinator of HoNESt at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, and Dr. Albert Presas i Puig, principal coordinator of HoNESt, also based at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra.
