 Dear all,
It was suggested that I contact you about some small pieces of 'stuff' (!) that we have found during our archaeological excavations at a Roman site in northern England. The pieces are bright pink, range in size from 3mm - 12mm, are soft with a crumbly texture. We have taken some close up images down the microscope - it is fairly uniform in nature.
Has anyone got any ideas?
We have thought that it could be a raw material used in metal working, or a waste product of an industrial process, a pigment made from mineral (rhodochrosite?), but we're guessing!
Any thoughts much appreciated. Please respond to my personal address - [log in to unmask] best wishes, Hannah
