Dear all,

  

I am proud to announce the call for participants for a 
Joint Training School “Social Aspects of Urban Gardening”, 
a joint event of COST Action Urban Allotments Gardens in 
European Cities together with COST Action Crime Prevention 
through Urban Design and Planning, which will take place 
in Warsaw from July 7 to 10 , 2015.

  

The budget allows to give a grant to 25 students from COST 
countries who are interested to learn more about  social 
aspects of urban gardening which is the shared and main 
topic to be taught. The main objective of the Training 
School is to increase awareness about the role of urban 
gardens (allotment and community gardens) in social 
development, such as social inclusion and integration, 
community building, crime prevention and improvement of 
the well-being of the garden users and local community. 
The general context is based on the European experiences 
with urban gardening and with special emphasis on the 
situation of Warsaw district – Praga.

  

Application deadline (with a motivation letter and a full 
CV) is 6th of May, 2015. The Organizational Committee will 
make the final decision on the space available basis by 
end of May, 2015. You will find further information (e.g. 
where to send your application).

  

Kindly inform interested students (at master or PhD level) 
and early stage researchers (who are in the early phase of 
their career with at least PhD degree and not more than 8 
year work experience after graduation) in your institution

The Joint Training School aims to link knowledge, work and 
experience gathered from two COST Actions
‘Urban Allotment Gardens in European Cities’ (TU1201) and 
‘Crime Prevention through Urban Design and
Planning’ (TU1203), considering social aspects of urban 
gardening as the shared and main topic to be taught.
The main objective of the Training School is to increase 
awareness about the role of urban gardens
(allotment and community gardens) in social development, 
such as social inclusion and integration,
community building, crime prevention and improvement of 
the well-being of the garden users and local
community. The general context is based on the European 
experiences with urban gardening and with
special emphasis on the situation of Warsaw district – 
Praga

We are looking for interested students to join the Joint 
Training School (at master or PhD level) and early
stage researchers (who are in the early phase of their 
career with at least PhD degree and not more than 8
year work experience after graduation). Applicants should 
come from COST countries.
COST countries include 35 member countries: Austria, 
Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia,
Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, 
Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland,
Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, The 
Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia,
Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, 
United Kingdom, the Former Yugoslav Republic of
Macedonia and Israel as a cooperating state.
We are offering places for 25 participants. Official 
language of the workshop is English.
There are no parallel courses planned. All participants 
have to attend all scheduled sessions (4 days) in order
to acquire an integrated view on the subject area of this 
Training School.
All participants shall be able and have the interest to do 
preparative works for the Joint Training School in
advance following the requirements of the tutors that will 
be informed in due course.
Interested participants shall apply with a motivation 
letter and a full CV until 6th May, 2015. The
Organizational Committee will make the final decision on 
the space available basis by end of May, 2015.
The confirmed applicants will be granted for 
accommodation, daily meals and travel expenses with the 
flat
rate grant of 400 € (participants from Poland 200 €) 
defined by both MC of the projects and Organizational
Committee.

Introductory session and site visit will be guided by the 
local organizers: Dr. hab. Beata Gawryszewska, Dr.
Renata Giedych, Dr. Monika Latkowska, and Dr. Gabriela 
Maksymiuk.
