Subject: Council Tax Query

Hi All,

We have been having a lot of discussions surrounding students who are studying a full time course on a part time basis and their entitlement to Council Tax.

For instance, if a student has studied full time for parts 1 and 2, then decides to repeat part 2 over two years, is he/she entitled to a Council Tax exemption?  We are coming across a lot of conflicting information in addition to the information provided by the Government, i.e. "...which lasts for at least one academic year, normally requires attendance of at least 24 weeks a year and involves on average at least 21 hours of study, tuition or work experience per week during term time".

If we followed the above rule, then according to the Government/Councils our FT on a PT basis students would not be exempt.  However, it appears that it is down to the individual universities as we all seem to have differing views....

Any advice/opinions/links would be really appreciated!
