Dear John et al,

If you are interested in pursuing the big data agenda you might be interested in a forthcoming conference that the RSS is a partner in called Policymaking for the Big Data Era: http://dataforpolicy.uk/

Subject: "Radical Statistics in an Age of Big Data" - proposed new book

Following the success of Saturday's conference, Jeff Evans and I discussed
future projects.

One idea was that RadStats should work towards a new publication - maybe
"Radical Statistics in an Age of Big Data".
The structure could be like that of "Demystifying Social Statistics", with
sections on Power and Politics, Technology, Big Corporations, 3rd World,
The State, etc., etc..

I'd welcome feedback as to whether you think this is a good idea, as well
as suggestions for potential authors or topics. (Please volunteer!)

Thanks all - and well done to everybody who made last Saturday such a
success!

Well done everybody who made the 2015 conference such a success.

The 2016 conference will be in York on either Sat 27 February or Sat 5
March. PLEASE PUT THEM BOTH IN YOUR DIARY NOW! In either case there will
also be events on Friday and on Sunday. (Maybe a film evening at our local
community cinema.)

Before finalising the date, I would welcome any preferences if one date or
the other seems preferable,

Regarding venue, I am proposing the same venue as in 2013 (Priory Street
Centre). However, I'd welcome comments especially if you felt this venue
was in any way unsuitable.

Thanks in advance for your prompt feedback! I hope to finalise the date in
the next week or so, and the venue soon after that.
