"[T]raining that worked" is a bit on the vague side.

Your original message seems to be about media training, maybe even training
for the media. In other words, working in or with the media.

Media folks are in a minority here. Most of us huddle in self-support groups
elsewhere.

I assume that you have already talked to Brian Trench, the grand old person
of science communication in Ireland. He is one of the tiny handful of people
who have made the transition from hack to PEST.

I'm sure that he has run more than enough media courses to keep him
entertained.

workshops anyone??

Maybe this didn't send probably, or maybe it is cos I is Irish, but one last
shot - is there nobody here who had sci-comms training that worked?
Activity suggestions really welcome. Thanks!

Hi folks,

Jonathan McCrea here from Dublin, Ireland. I am putting on a few science
communication workshops here and while I already have the programme set up,
I am always looking to improve and apply best practice. For that reason, I
would love to know if there were any particular ideas or tasks that you have
found really engaging or effective recently? Did something really click
with your class? Particularly looking for physical or group activities as
opposed to topics. Some of the participants will be doing the workshop
because it is mandatory, so any tips on how to win people round to
participating?

We will be doing:

Mock interviews

What it says in the papers

Creative language and metaphors - any activity ring a bell here?

A bit of theory

Talking about different ways and media to communicate science

How the media works

Pitching your ideas

Crafting your story

Three message rule

Preparing for an interview

But as I say, always open to something new, better or unusual!

Thanks!
