Subject: Re: [OCC-HEALTH] Height Adjustable Desk Guidance

Hi Jo
Contact the Get Britain Standing Campaign, the following link has their details and some tips on using such desks http://www.getbritainstanding.org/start.php

They have this advice;

Top 5 tips for users of Sit-Stand:

  1. Build it up gradually. Start with 20 minute standing, then sit for 40 minutes and repeat throughout the day
  2. Avoid excessive sitting and standing. Keep moving around, take frequent breaks, and make a conscious effort to mix it up. Standing all day can lead to back, knee or foot problems.
  3. Make sure you have comfortable footwear and think about a comfort mat.
  4. Find out what things you prefer doing standing e.g phone calls, clearing out your inbox, routine deskwork.
  5. Also find out the things you do better sitting e.g concise and creative writing, proof reading, in depth analysis.
I think the key is having the choice to sit and stand, I have seen issues with reception staff who have no choice but to stand all day and therefore have exacerbated issues such as lower back problems, varicose veins and cardiac issues.

Regards
Karen

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] Height Adjustable Desk Guidance

Evening all ...

Perhaps a silly question but does anyone have an written guidance on using a height adjustable desk that they would be happy to share.

I am a believer of these and have introduced a number into my working environments but am conscious that if not used correctly i.e. static positioning by standing for too long or all the time, and not setting at correct height for the individual there is a risk of exacerbating an underlying / or developing a musculoskeletal injury.

Would be grateful for your assist ...

Many thanks

Kind Regards

Jo
