****25 Fully funded PhD scholarships for October 2015 start****

Deadline for applications is Friday 10 April 2015 at 12 noon.

Edinburgh Napier University is seeking to strengthen and expand areas of research excellence across our spectrum of research disciplines. We are inviting high-quality applications for 25 fully-funded, full-time doctoral studentships. Successful applicants will join a lively and thriving research student community and undertake original research in their chosen specialism.

The Centre for Algorithms, Visualisation and Evolutionary Systems invites applications from prospective students with the field of Bio-Inspired Computing, Artificial Intelligence and Learning. Within this Centre, a thriving group produces world-leading research within the area of optimisation and learning, employing evolutionary algorithms, hyper-heuristics and techniques from artificial immune systems. We have funding from national and internationl agencies to support our work, and staff are active internationally, as editors of leading journals and chairing conferences and workshops. We are also active in consultancy work, and have a particular interest in appyling our work to real-world problems.

Indicative topics are listed below - however, applications are not limited to these areas only and we welcome any application that relates to bio-inspired computing.

Algorithm selection methods for meta-heuristic optimisation
Towards hyper-heuristic optimisation methods that learn from experience
Optimisation of scheduling, timetabling, travel-plans or logistics using bio-inspired methods to produce lower-carbon and person- centred solutions.
Reducing the carbon footprint of computing through algorithm design

Candidates should have or expect to achieve a First Class Honours Degree or 2:1 Honours Degree supported by a Master’s degree in a relevant subject. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are prerequisites of any successful application. More information and details regarding the application process are here:
