Hi Jon
We have been evaluating Arches since it first appeared, as we'd love to be able to offer it as a possible lightweight alternative to HBSMR, for clients who don't need the real deal (full analytical and GIS capabilities etc etc). We've not yet looked at v3, but our earlier experiences were such that we have not been able/willing to use Arches in a production situation. We considered it recently for the new "Church Heritage Record" for C of E, but instead we built a new web-based system built around the core HBSMR data structures then extended to their particular needs.
Happy to discuss more off-list if you want,
Crispin

Subject: Anyone using ARCHES - Getty/WMF Project

Hi all

Just wondered if anyone in the UK is using Arches yet (archesproject.org), is testing it, has evaluated it or has even considered it for their HER? That is the web based application, not the "Archaeological Resources in Cultural Heritage a European Standard" as detailed on the ADS website.

The about to be available v3.0 looks very interesting and looks as if it would be easier to implement than previous versions as long as we are able to accommodate the technology required.

We are currently in a position where we need to decide to spend money on a proprietry solution, redevelop our in-house existing system (possibly using SQL Server/K2/Sharepoint/QGIS/Geoserver) or look at other options, including open source such as Arches. They obviously all have cost implications, some more up front than others!

Any information/contacts would be useful.

Best regards,
Jon
