Ken, can I ask that you get more closely acquainted with the work going on at LUCID
http://lucid.lu.se.webbhotell.ldc.lu.se/ before you ridicule it on a list with over 4,000 readers?
All the (roughly 20) PhD theses thus far completed in the LUCID programme have drawn on critical perspectives readers of this list will recognize as valuable contributions to critical geography.
John Terrell, who recently launched the Science Dialogues, http://sciencedialogues.com/who-are-we/another-magazine-contributors-page/ , has recently published a book on A Talent for Friendship. http://ukcatalogue.oup.com/product/9780199386451.do
I recommend it.
Just a reminder of common etiquette and decency on the list. The messages below are below that. Critical engagement needs to be distinguished
from aggressive attacks.
Friendly regards,
Eric
Hi Ken,
Not sure if the list is a good place to discuss long and awkward names, and yes, self-proclaimed excellence is as awkward as it is tedious and presumptuous. And yet neoliberalized universities and most academics seek high rankings in the various ranking systems. Is there anything you would like to discuss about LUCID (ten years mega-funded by the Swedish Research Council, one of the so-called Linnaeus Grants)? Or the thinking forwarded in the Science Dialogues blog?
Best,
Eric

A friend of mine wrote this three-part blogg for Science Dialogues which I thought might interest some people on this list, not least this third part. With much talk these days on participation and sustainability, it is good that critical studies in natural history can give us wind in our sails.
Comradely greetings,
Eric
