However linked data requires careful handling if it is to enhance the preservation of cultural heritage. Following a successful collaborative project funded by Semantic Media, historian Dr. Alison C Kay (iSchool, Northumbria), computer scientists Dr. Gemma Webster (Aberdeen) and Dr. Hai Nguyen (Aberdeen) and geographer Dr. David Beel (Sheffield) are organising a workshop to explore the issues and application of this innovative technology for history and heritage. Themes: a) sustainable digital preservation platforms for community collections and family histories; b) the impact, practicality, usability and pitfalls of linked data in the cultural heritage domain; c) the combined impact as regards: whose heritage is this? identifying and training the citizen archivist / historian. d) multi-disciplinary collaboration; e) obtaining funding! Short papers, long papers and demonstrations of projects at all stages are welcome to apply.
