Seminar Series

A Marxist Education: The Archives of the Marx Memorial Library

Founded by British socialists and trade unionists to mark the anniversary of Karl Marx’s death in 1933 and as a response to the Nazi book burnings in Germany, the Marx Memorial Library has since become a centre for research and education on Marxism, trade unionism and the working class movement.

This seminar will explore the history of the Library and look at its unique place in the British labour movement. Archivist Meirian Jump will explore some of the main collections which concern International Brigades, the print workers unions and Britain and the Soviet Union. She will also discuss a series of upcoming projects at the Library including the launch of the catalogue of the Spanish Collection to mark the anniversary of the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in 2016.

Thursday 16 April 2015, 6:00pm (doors 5:30) - 7:30pm at London Metropolitan Archives - Huntley Room
