Applications are invited from outstanding individuals for a Chair or Readership in Statistics, to start from 1 October 2015 or sooner. The postholder will work in the field of statistical science, broadly interpreted.

Made possible by further ambitious strategic investment by Imperial College, the Statistics Section in the Department of Mathematics is seeking to expand.  A primary purpose of this expansion is to further support the development and delivery of a full-time MSc course in Statistics, which started in October 2012.  Recent initiatives within the Statistics Section have included the recruitment of a specialist Lecturer in credit scoring, and the recruitment of a Lecturer in Astrostatistics, a post held jointly with the Department of Physics. Further information about the Statistics Section can be found at http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/statistics.

Candidates will have a PhD (or equivalent) in Statistics, Mathematics or a closely related discipline, and will have research interests in a field of statistical science, broadly interpreted.  Candidates must also be able to demonstrate a strong research record. Extensive experience of teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level across a range of subjects in Statistics, and a track record of successful PhD student supervision and postdoctoral mentoring, are essential. Strong leadership qualities are also required, including a proven track record of securing research funding and sustaining a vigorous research programme. Candidates will also have strong leadership qualities in areas which enhance and extend those of the Section.

For appointment to Chair, in addition to the above requirements, candidates will also be expected to demonstrate evidence of a substantial and internationally recognised research record and extensive experience of PhD student supervision.
