Site Artist Call Out
April/May 2015

Tracing the Pathway<http://www.tracingthepathway.com/> are delighted to announce the launch of Groundwork; one strand in a performance and research programme that sees (inter)nationally acclaimed artist/researchers offering new, stimulating and creative opportunities for the local community of Milton Keynes. In collaboration with Milton Keynes Arts Centre<http://www.miltonkeynesartscentre.org/> (MKAC), Tracing the Pathway are producing a series of events, workshops, and talks to support artists and researchers working with a site-specific or site-responsive method of performance practice.

Groundwork is a practice-led research scheme specifically focused on performance practices, to reflect Tracing the Pathway’s own primary discipline, as well as to expand MKAC’s diverse offering of creative disciplines, in order to cultivate its established facilitation of heritage and craft, in this prominent field of art.

Groundwork is currently inviting two artist/researchers to spend ten days at MKAC as Site Artists.

The Site Artists will be immersed in and learn about the geographical, historical, social and cultural context in which the people of Milton Keynes live, work and play (a concept at the heart of the original plans for the Great Linford Arts Centre, the precursor to the MKAC). The artists will have a base to work from at MKAC, stay with a local host family, as well as have opportunities to work with the community, in order to consider the generation a new work of art or performance that exclusively responds to Milton Keynes’ cultural heritage.

The work created as part of this programme is solely about and for Milton Keynes, which will create unique artworks that intend to develop a strong sense of belonging with those that engage with them.
