POLICY SCOTLAND
WELFARE REFORM NETWORK LAUNCH EVENT
18:00 – 19:30, Thursday 19th February 2015
Lecture Theatre B (Room 412), Boyd Orr Building, University of Glasgow
We would like to invite you to participate in the Policy Scotland Welfare Reform Network, and to attend its launch event ‘Sanctions in Scotland: Evidence, policy in practice and impacts’.
The Policy Scotland Welfare Reform Network is a newly forming network designed to bring together people interested in welfare reform in Scotland, who may be:
• experiencing or concerned about welfare reform
• working with or for those affected by welfare reform
• working in agencies affected by or delivering welfare reform
• involved in designing policies and practices of welfare reform
• researching or commenting on welfare reform.
The network is based at the University of Glasgow and aims to share and develop ideas and evidence that can impact on decision-making and policy outcomes relating to welfare reform.
Sanctions in Scotland: Evidence, policy in practice and impacts
This event explores the practice of benefit sanctioning in Scotland. Benefit sanctions have risen dramatically in recent years and there is a great deal of concern over how sanctions are used and how they affect people subject to them. This event presents recent evidence of sanctioning trends, examines the character and direction of policy change, considers key issues of sanctioning in practice and highlights the impact of sanctions.
This is the launch event of a forming ‘Welfare Reform Network’, led by Dr Sharon Wright and based at Policy Scotland, University of Glasgow.
