Dear sigma Colleagues

The third run of the Loughborough University Mathematics Education Centre FutureLearn Course Getting a grip on mathematical symbolism will start on 9 March 2015.

Tony Croft has contributed a post to the FutureLearn blog which refers to the work of sigma:

Trying to make it all add up: preparing young people for the mathematical demands of university

The blog post may be accessed from https://about.futurelearn.com/blog/mathematical-skills/

Getting a grip on mathematical symbolism is a three week free online course suitable for students aspiring to study mathematics and science foundation courses at university. The course assumes a GCSE level of mathematics but is suitable for students who may not have studied any mathematics for some time.

The course encourages students to think mathematically about the equation of a line and its relevance in science and engineering. Materials are delivered on the FutureLearn platform - video tutorials with animations, onscreen articles, quizzes to test understanding and forums where learners exchange ideas and support each other.

Further details and registration on the course are available from: https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/mathematical-symbolism

Kind regards

Janette
