Gosh, Bill, that intuition of yours takes me by surprise.

I knew I was having trouble with tone - the first part began at a moment of feeling a superfluous old codger myself! 

gradually it seemed to need a counterweight and actuallyI hoped for the new man to sound something of a poseur! 
admire him and you expose your prejudicial assumptions!

But it got out of control, and the climate change stuff seems to get in the way.
Out of my fumbling hands!
