COMMENCING OCTOBER 2015
A PhD research scholarship including stipend and tuition fee costs is offered within the Cinema and Television History (CATH) Research Centre in the Leicester Media School. It is available to UK or EU students who are suitably qualified and
have outstanding potential as a researcher.
Project outline
On the centenary of the birth of the celebrated comic actor, Sir Norman Wisdom, in February 2015, the CATH Research Centre is acquiring a unique collection of artefacts, correspondence and memorabilia from his biographer (Richard Dacre). The archive covers
the fields of theatre, film, television and radio and is currently uncatalogued. The initial cataloguing and organisation of the collection will be undertaken by a doctoral student, who will go on to select an aspect of the collection that most suits her/his
expertise for the PhD thesis, formulating appropriate research questions from the nature of the material uncovered in the cataloguing process. This is a wonderful opportunity to be the first to explore an archive of international significance.
