PU became the first in Asia to establish a seat of formal learning in library education by appointing an American Librarian, Asa Don Dickenson, to teach a Certificate Course in Librarianship in 1915. Since its inception the nomenclature has also been evolved as “Librarianship”, “Library Science”, “Library and Information Science”, and most recent “Information Management” to display the dynamic nature of the discipline. The Department has planned an International Conference on Information Management and Libraries (ICIML 2015) to celebrate the centenary anniversary.
