Oral Culture and Political Impact in Senese Academies

The Accademia degl’Intronati principle De mundo non curare was not to be taken literally. Despite the Intronati’s stated proclamation to distance themselves from the blaring noise of the world, their society included among its members intellectuals whose works had a relevant political impact. This session accepts papers that aim to study the political impact of work by members of  principal Senese academies (Intronati, Rozzi, Travagliati, Sborrati, Filomati, Accesi, Uniti, Filomeli, Raffrontati, Risoluti, Assicurate, Partenia, Insipidi, Rozzi minori), with a special attention to papers that analyse the effects of oral culture, manuscript and print in Early Modern Siena (1450 – 1700).

Please send a 250-word abstract to Dr. Sciltian Gastaldi ([log in to unmask]) by February 15, 2015.
