PANELS: ‘Sovrane prove di traduttrici in versi (e non)’: Women and Translation in 20th-century Italian Literature

PANEL DESCRIPTION:
The relationship between translation and poetics is critical to our understanding of 20th-century Italian literature. Since modernity women have played a key role in literary translation practice, whether or not being fully acknowledged. This panel will aim at mapping the presence of women translators of modern and classical languages, and their contribution to the contemporary literary debate. It will consider the ways in which women enter the dialogue with established translations as well as male translators. Such a perspective will problematize issues central to translation studies, authorial identity, canonicity, and gender.
Papers may include, but are not limited to, the following topics:
