Hi Martin,

I’m a Your Paintings tagger too, and you’re right, it’s a very interesting project to be involved with. However, only about 10% of the paintings have been tagged so far, so keep at it if you can! I’d encourage others to give it a go, too. You can do as much or as little as you like, although judging by the “most active taggers” league table some taggers seem to regard it into a full-time job!

Kind regards,

Melissa

Great to see the Your Painting’s project archive being used in this way as I was one of the virtual volunteers doing the subject tagging. It was a great crowdsourcing project to be involved with.

It’s not here, but it’s a nice painting J

I have a few HER entries based on, or enhanced by, paintings such as Habrough Mill here - http://www.bbc.co.uk/arts/yourpaintings/paintings/habrough-mill-lincolnshire-80662 - it’s well worth having a look through the BBC website for works by local artists from before photography became commonplace (although there are only two images tagged as being in Southampton, so no use for Ingrid!)

Subject: Malthouse Painting 1857

An auction web site is advertising a painting by Phillip Brannon and entitled “The Malthouse, Southampton 1857”: http://www.arcadja.com/auctions/en/brannon_philip/artist/123193/ (our “Websense” system blocks this).  We don’t recognise the building as being in Southampton (city centre or suburbs).  It is possible that the painting has been assumed to be of Southampton as Brannon lived and worked here, although he also worked in other places.  Does anyone recognise this building/painting?

Best wishes

Ingrid
