As part of their 50th Anniversary Lectureship scheme, Lancaster University are looking to recruit early career academics in the areas of mobile work and flexible cities.
 
The Scheme, which aims to appoint fifty early career academics over the next year, is designed to identify academic leaders of the future and attract the highest calibre of applicants with the potential to become Readers or Chairs within 5 years. Successful applicants will not be allocated a direct teaching load in at least the first two years, although tutoring, project supervision and a small number of specialist lectures would be possible. In years 3-5 they will remain research focussed but undertake appropriate teaching responsibilities to satisfy operational and promotion criteria.

Lecturer in Mobile Work
As Lecturer in Mobile Work, you will further develop Lancaster’s already strong international reputation for research on mobilities. You will contribute to the research agendas of the Departments of Organisation, Work and Technology in the Management School and the Department of Sociology, and will play a central role in the Lancaster University Centre for Mobilities Research.  Your research will address the growing tendency for work to be detached from any fixed place or space. It will explore one or more of the various ways that work can be mobile, including but not limited to work completed whilst travelling, work that has a constantly changing location, work that involves virtual connectivity and mobility, work that involves constantly move between employers etc.

Lecturer in Flexible Cities (Flexicity)
This lectureship provides an opportunity to develop new social science research the spatial and temporal flexibility of urban systems and infrastructures and the production of less carbon-intensive ways of life.  The position is designed to enhance Lancaster’s expertise in the social analysis of the urban, focusing on the dynamics of complex processes and on changing forms of adaptation and obduracy.  You will bring a distinctive, theoretically informed approach to these topics and be keen to generate and pursue lines of enquiry that link relevant fields such as the sociology of time and of complexity, social theories of practice, future studies, science and technology studies, studies of the urban and of infrastructures and systems of energy, transport and water.  The post builds on and contributes to existing research within the DEMAND centre (Dynamics of energy, mobility and demand) and the Centre for Mobilities Research in Sociology.
