The BDA at http://www.bdadyslexia.org.uk/educator will give you  good start and the Addressing Dyslexia Toolkit at http://www.addressingdyslexia.org/index.php although aimed primarily at classroom teachers will give you a good idea of best practice in the classroom as class teachers  are in the best position to identify early indicators of dyslexia and other literacy difficulties. The toolkit is based on identification using the experiences and outcomes of the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence but the approach is clearly transferable to ensure that appropriate assessment and support are in place for any learners with literacy difficulties such as dyslexia when they need it. The toolkit was produced by a specialist working group managed by Dyslexia Scotland with the support of the Scottish Government.

Dear All

I am the Learning Support Co-Ordinator (alongside the role as librarian) at a small private college. I just wondered if anyone can recommend any good training courses on dyslexia.

We currently have five students with a formal diagnosis of dyslexia and although I have picked up a quite a lot from just doing the job, it would be really useful to go on a short course so I can learn more. I'd be particularly interested in learning more about dyslexia friendly assessment as that could be passed on to faculty too.

I am based in Manchester, so courses close by would be particularly helpful. I have a very limited training budget, so can't afford anything too expensive!

Thank you.

Helen.
