Section 15: Feminist Global Political Economy
Feminist Global Political Economy (GPE) is a growing field of research situated between Critical Political Economy, Feminist Economics, and Feminist International Relations. Feminist GPE analysis begins from
two linked claims: first, that gender is an essential analytical tool for understanding contemporary political, economic, and social life; and second, that mainstream approaches to International Political Economy and International Relations lack this gendered
analysis. This section aims to reflect the diversity of feminist GPE and highlight the theoretical, empirical, and methodological advances made in the field. Papers are invited to speak to the following four themes: issues of financial crisis, austerity,
and the emergence of managerial feminisms in the post-2008 context; the Gender and Development legacy of feminist GPE, investigating the institutional structure of international development and post-2015 agendas; a feminist GPE perspective on conflict and
post-conflict reconstruction, violence against women, and ‘everyday’ life in the GPE; theoretical and methodological advances in the field and new directions for research.
Please contact the section chair, Sydney Calkin, with any questions ([log in to unmask])
