I have an employee who has given me consent to discuss her case with this forum.

She sustained a fracture to her left ulna and radius which was pinned and plated and in a cast for about 4 weeks. However she continues to have pain and extremely limited movement and is unable to put her left hand down flat into a neutral position. She can only hold it in a vertical position. She is due to see a hand specialist 2nd Feb.

In the meantime, she is at work but she is unable to use the keyboard 2 handed. So while she feels able to answer e mails she is unable to write reports or lengthy documents. Her manager referred her to OH for advice on voice activated software but I have advised her that this is not suitable as a short term measure. I have advised that she considers if the employee can dictate reports so that they can typed up by admin while we await the outcome of her appointment with the hand specialist.

Do you have any other short term solutions that I can offer to the manager to enable the employee to continue working? Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a vertical keyboard?

I look forward to your replies.

Therona
