Aim: Provide heritage organisations with the practical knowledge to set up a membership or friends of scheme and engage with and develop successful relationships with members.  Provide context regarding how membership/friends of schemes complement the full fundraising mix for organisations

Workshop: Presentation and interactive exercises to explore the need for and development of membership programmes, and participant brainstorming/input around and into programme development and best practice for their own organisations

Learning outcomes:
By attending this course you will be able to:

  • Understand the stages of the membership marketing life cycle 
  • Be able to develop a successful membership recruitment strategy
  • Improve membership retention rates
  • Develop fruitful relationships with members
  • Understand key metrics to evaluate success
  • Ensure that you comply with legal requirements
  • Share best practice with other heritage membership organisations

Target group
Trustees, staff and volunteers in heritage organisations 

Level: Intermediate
It is suitable for those with some experience of fundraising and/or marketing who want to improve their skills and develop the practical knowledge to set up a successful friends of/membership scheme for their heritage organisation
