A POSTDOCTORAL POSITION is available starting January 2015 within the Laboratory Astrophysics group of the Institute of Physics of Rennes (IPR) at the University of Rennes 1, in Brittany, France.

The successful applicant will participate in the Anion Cos Chem project (Exploring the Chemistry and Spectroscopy of Cosmic Anions) funded by the French ANR (National Research Agency). The project will be undertaken through a partnership between 4 research teams (IPR-Rennes, LOMC Le Havre, ISM Bordeaux, CSIC-Madrid) with internationally recognized experimental, theoretical, modeling and astrophysical expertise.

The main scientific aim of this project is to improve our knowledge, still very scarce, of the role of anions in the interstellar medium through their infrared spectroscopy and their chemical reactivity. One of the objectives of the IPR-Rennes partner is to study anion-molecule reaction kinetics and branching ratio at low temperature using the CRESU technique (1,2). To date less than a handful of reactions involving anions have been explored below the temperature of 200 K.

The investigation of the reactivity of negative ions requires dedicated state of the art laboratory experiments. The candidate will develop and implement a selected ion source on the CRESU chamber. The candidate will also participate to low temperature kinetics measurements of ion-molecule reactions using the setup under its current configuration (3).

The candidate must have a solid background in experimental physical chemistry or chemical physics. Special abilities in mass spectrometry and ion optics are required. Experience in rarefied flows and/or data acquisition would be advantageous.

The appointment will be for 18 months. The salary is competitive and will commensurate with experience
(monthly gross salary>  2296 EUR).

Applicants should send (preferably by email) a letter of interest, a CV and the names and contact details (emails) of three referees to
