Copyright Update: making sense of copyright reforms - Emily Stannard

Course Outline: 
2014 saw some major changes to UK copyright law which are having a significant impact on the work of information professionals in all sectors.
This one day, interactive workshop will bring attendees up to date on developments in copyright, specifically the changes to UK law and ongoing issues at EU level, and will provide a range of solutions for everyone who uses information resources in their day to day work.
The workshop will give delegates the confidence to deal with the practical issues which they might encounter and covers a variety of topics including licensing, key legal cases and orphan works.  This will be a highly interactive day, with a quiz, scenarios and Q&A sessions.  Attendees are asked to submit questions they would like answering in advance.

Indicative topics:
    New copyright exceptions (including for education, fair dealing, libraries and archives)
    Making the law work for you
    Practical ways to manage risk and liability
    Using licences in light of changes to the law
    Key legal cases: past, present and future
    Global developments in copyright with a specific focus on the European Union

Who should attend: 
This workshop is aimed at all those who undertake library and information work that involves the use of copyright materials and who are keen to learn about the latest developments in copyright law and practice.  Some knowledge of copyright principles and law is assumed.

Course Presenter: Emily Stannard
Emily Stannard, an independent copyright expert, is formerly the Copyright & Compliance Officer at the University of Reading.  She has a strong online presence as @copyrightgirl on Twitter and represents the LIS-Copyseek community of librarians and copyright officers in Higher and Further Education on the Libraries and Archives Copyright Alliance (LACA).
