We do charge VAT, but that is largely due to the … quirky … way our finance team processes HER trawls. All Commercial HER searches are invoiced as “Archaeological Pre-Application Enquiries” and are therefore liable for VAT in the same way as any other pre-app.

Some consistency on this would be nice, but our charging regime is always going to be inconsistent!

Paul,

Our VAT officer informed us we should be VAT exempt a few years ago.

Perhaps all the Local Authority VAT officers should get together and form some consensus, I would say it is out of our hands and in theirs.

Hi All,

Happy New Year.  Sorry to raise this again, but did we ever get a consensus on whether we should be charging VAT on HER Trawls?  One of our finance officers has said that we should because whilst we are the sole provider of that data as it is technically not a statutory requirement in law (regardless of policy) trawls should not be VAT exempt.

Has anyone sorted this out yet?

Thanks

Paul
