Precarious Geographies Workshop

Tuesday 10th of February, 1-5pm

Bedford Square, London

WC1B 3RF

We invite participants to a workshop on Precarious Geographies on Tuesday
10th of February in Bedford Square, central London.

This workshop forms part of an ongoing project on Precarious Geographies.

Following on from Judith Butler’s assertion that, while *precariousness *is
common to all life, *precarity *is politically induced (2009) ‘Precarious
Geographies’ seeks to understand the spatial stratagems behind both the
exploitation of precariousness, and the instigation of precarity.

The workshop will begin with two keynote presentations followed by themed
discussion sessions centred around short participant presentations.
Presentation themes include; geographies of asylum, temporary urbanisms and
the precarious politics of regeneration.

Confirmed keynote speakers are James Rhodes (University of Manchester),
whose talk will focus on the decline of rust belt cities in the US, and
Louise Waite and Hannah Lewis (University of Leeds), who will discuss their
recent ESRC funded project on ‘Precarious Lives’.

Attendance is free, please register to book your place by emailing both
workshop conveners at:
